Delhi, Our First Stop on a Family Journey 🇮🇳

Delhi was a new city for me.

This time, I was travelling with my family. We had planned a nine-day trip to India to do Appa’s seventh-year prayers in Kashi.

But before reaching Kashi, our journey began in Delhi.

There was a different culture to experience, places to visit, and food to try.

And looking at these photographs now, I have quite a few memories from that first stop.

Looking Up at Hanuman 🕉️

Before visiting India Gate, we went to Shri Siddh Hanuman Mandir, also known as Sankat Mochan Dham, near Jhandewalan.

The temple is known for its enormous Hanuman statue.

You can see what I mean in the photographs. 😂

The red statue, the colourful details, and its size make it quite a sight. Some of my pictures show the whole statue, while others show the details up close.

This was one of our temple visits at the beginning of the family trip. Later, we would continue to Ayodhya and Kashi, but Delhi had given us somewhere to stop first.

Visiting India Gate was memorable for me.

There was a sense of pride about the place, and I felt calm being there.

And I took photographs, of course. 😂

Quite a few photographs.

Some show the whole structure. Others capture the details up close. Then there’s the one of me standing in front of it.

I wanted to keep memories of being there, in a city I was visiting for the first time.

India Gate became one of those stops I’m glad we included in the journey.

Naan, Paneer Masala and Chai

We ate at restaurants during our time in Delhi.

Naan, bhel puri, paneer masala, and chai were among the things we had.

What stood out to me was the choice of vegetarian dishes. There were more options than I was used to in Malaysia.

That was another part of experiencing Delhi for me. Along with the places we visited, there was something different to discover when we sat down to eat.

The Beginning of Our Nine Days

There was a personal reason behind this trip: Appa’s seventh-year prayers in Kashi.

I’ll share that part of the journey when we reach Kashi in these stories.

For now, this was Delhi.

A new city, a visit to Hanuman Mandir, time at India Gate, and meals with my family.

And plenty of photographs to bring home. 📸

Our next stop was Ayodhya.

Just here.
