Not Every Stop Is on the Map 🐾

Stray dogs eating food from plates beside a green roadside

There is dry dog food in my car.

Yes, dog food. 😂

Some people keep snacks in their car for themselves.

I keep something for the dogs I might meet along the way.

Because sometimes I’m going somewhere, see a stray dog and stop.

That stop wasn’t part of the plan.

But I can spare a little time.

They Cannot Ask

Something I keep thinking about is how we ask for food.

When we’re hungry, we can tell someone.

We can buy something.

We can say, “I haven’t eaten.”

But how does a stray animal ask?

A pet at home usually has someone looking after it.

Someone feeds it, bathes it and notices when something is wrong.

Then there are the animals outside.

Who notices whether they have eaten?

I don’t have an answer for all of them.

But when one is right there in front of me, I find it difficult to carry on without doing something.

A Small Habit

That’s how keeping dog food in the car became a habit.

If I come across dogs, I have something ready.

Sometimes I see monkeys or birds instead. Then I get something suitable for them.

I can’t feed every animal.

I know that.

But I can feed the ones I come across.

It’s a small thing I can do while going about my own day.

And honestly, it makes me happy.

Watching them eat makes me smile.

There isn’t much more to explain than that.

Why I Share It

Sometimes I share these moments on Instagram.

And yes, there is a reason.

Someone might see it and think about doing the same.

Maybe the next time they come across a hungry dog, they’ll stop.

Maybe they’ll start keeping some food in their car too.

I would be happy with that.

We share our coffee, our meals, our holidays.

I certainly share mine. 😂

So I’m happy to share this part of my life as well.

It matters to me.

Along the Way

Beyond The Horizon has my travels, my coffee, my work stories and, apparently, a slightly competitive man in a go-kart. 😂

But this is part of Thana too.

The man who sees an animal on the roadside and thinks about whether it has eaten.

I don’t always have much to give.

Sometimes it’s just a little food and a few minutes.

But I’d rather do that small thing than keep wondering about it after I’ve driven away.

I still have somewhere to go.

They still need something to eat.

There is room in my day for both.

So the dog food stays in the car.

For whoever I meet next.

Just here.
