People often ask me why I travel.
Some assume it is because I enjoy visiting new places.
Others think it is about collecting experiences, taking photographs, or ticking destinations off a list.
While those things are certainly part of it, the truth is much deeper.
Travel has become one of the most meaningful parts of my life.
Not because of the destinations alone, but because of the lessons, experiences, and memories that come with every journey.
It Was Never Part of the Plan
I was born into a middle-class family.
Growing up, travelling overseas was never a priority.
Like many families, the focus was on providing for the family, managing expenses, and ensuring everyone had what they needed.
Travel was something we talked about, not something we regularly did.
At that stage of life, visiting another country felt more like a luxury than a possibility.
Looking back, I understand why.
Life was about responsibilities first.
Travel could wait.
Breaking the Chain
But somewhere along the way, that changed.
One person who played a big part in changing that mindset was my mother.
As the years went by, she started travelling more, especially for spiritual and temple visits.
What began as a personal journey slowly became something bigger.
My siblings started travelling.
And eventually, I did too.
Looking back now, I realise that a chain was broken.
The idea that travel was something distant or out of reach slowly disappeared.
Instead, travel became something we embraced.
Something we enjoyed.
Something that helped us grow.
More Than Just a Destination
Over the years, I have travelled for different reasons.
Some journeys were spiritual.
Some were for leisure.
Some were simply opportunities to explore somewhere new.
But regardless of the destination, I realised that the greatest value of travel is not found in the places themselves.
It is found in the experiences.
The stories.
The people.
And the memories we bring home.
A destination may attract us.
But it is the experience that stays with us.
Experiencing Different Cultures
One of my favourite things about travelling is experiencing different cultures.
I enjoy seeing how people live, what they value, and how traditions are preserved from one generation to another.
Every place has its own identity.
Its own rhythm.
Its own story.
And there is always something new to learn.
Travel reminds me that even though we come from different backgrounds, there is often far more that connects us than separates us.
The Food, The Beaches, and The People
I would be lying if I said food was not part of the experience.
One of the highlights of travelling is trying different foods and local specialties.
Sometimes it is the famous dishes.
Sometimes it is a small family-owned restaurant that is not listed in any guidebook.
The same goes for beaches, nature, and local attractions.
Every destination offers something unique.
But if there is one thing I remember most from my travels, it is the people.
The conversations.
The friendships.
The strangers who become part of a memory.
The people who help make a journey meaningful.
Those moments stay with me long after the trip ends.
Travel Changed Me
When I first started travelling, I was focused on the destination.
Today, I travel for the experience.
Travel has taught me patience.
It has taught me gratitude.
It has taught me to appreciate different perspectives.
It has helped me understand that life is much bigger than the small corner of the world we see every day.
Most importantly, it has helped me create memories that I will carry with me forever.
Travel has also taught me that some of life’s greatest memories are not expensive.
They can be found in a conversation with a stranger.
A temple visit.
A sunrise.
A family photograph.
Or simply a moment that reminds us to be grateful.
Beyond The Horizon
One unexpected outcome of travelling was the creation of this blog.
Beyond The Horizon started as a place to document journeys and memories.
Over time, it became something more.
A place to preserve experiences.
A place to share stories.
A place to reflect on lessons learned along the way.
Looking back, travel did not just give me memories.
It gave me Beyond The Horizon.
And through this blog, I have been able to relive moments that might otherwise have faded with time.
Looking Back
The older I get, the more I realise that travel is not about how many countries I have visited or how many photos I have taken.
It is about the experiences.
The people.
The lessons.
The memories.
And the gratitude that comes from being able to see more of the world.
Travel started as something I never expected to be part of my life.
Today, I cannot imagine my life without it.
Because beyond every destination is a story waiting to be discovered.
And that is why I travel.🌍✈️❤️
